Carved in Bocote rosewood from Mexico, these hand-carved pieces were to be used in a modern-day treasure hunt project. Ebony gouge
Wood carvers’ gouge; carved out of one piece of ebony. Ebony is a very dense dark wood which can be polished to a mirror finish in its natural state. Due to its density, it is able to hold very fine detail in the finished carving.
Tillet Block
Tillet block is a woodcut print block which was used in the wool industry during the 17th and 18th centuries. The exported textile was wrapped in coarse cloth known as tillet and tillets are decorated with ornate prints which acted as a company brand mark.
