ARCHITECTURAL GILDING WEST LONDON SYNAGOGUE
We are asked by London Stone Conservation to join the restoration project at the West London Synagogue.
The synagogue dates back to 1870. The main sanctuary was built in Neo-Byzantine architectural style by Davis & Emmanuel. The Entire geometric patterned pierced screens were re-gilded using 23 & ½ carat superior quality gold leaves. The screens were stripped off the previous bronze paint, followed by careful sanding to bare metal. The screens were then primed and painted with an oil-based yellow coat, followed by an application of 12-hour oil size to adhere the gold leave.
